2016 Goals
I have never been a fan of 'resolutions.' I think they are often made in haste, and tend to be easier to let slide as the year's stresses and important events happen. I am, however, a fan of goals. I tend to be 'Miss Accomplish Goals with vigor,' so I sat this morning and thought about my goals for 2016.
Following my knee injury from the marathon (an overuse injury, no doubt), I have not put much mileage in, but instead have done shorter distances of running with my triathlons (so incorporating swimming and biking for the extra endurance). I love the sport of triathlon and want to go after that this year without a doubt. I also have physical goals that I want to accomplish to be healthier also. So, without further ado, my physical goals for 2016:
1) Get down to my goal weight (my goal is essentially to be in the healthy range at Weight Watchers and for my BMI). It isn't a magic number, but a healthy range where I feel comfortable.
2) Complete Dam to Dam (going to take quite a bit of training and hopefully my knee does not get angry again).
3) Complete a few 5k's leading up to Dam to Dam (I haven't raced since Des Moines Triathlon and didn't race much last year in general).
4) Compete in Copper Creek Triathlon or Iowa Games Triathlon (not sure which, but one of the two due to time constraints).
5) PR at Des Moines Triathlon (hoping my healthier self will compete better than last year when I was quite frankly heavier than I had been in quite some time).
I want to clarify that I am in no way criticizing myself or my body for being the size that I was. I, quite possibly for the first time ever, am honoring my body and loving myself through the process. For me it is not about being 'skinny.' It is about being healthier, stronger, and better. It is a process I have never felt this much support through, and I am excited to be on this journey with some amazing people.
I am a big believer that journeys change constantly. In 2014 it was my marathon year, 2015 was a regrouping year, and 2016 will be the year that I am 100% the best version of me that I can be (physically, mentally, and everything in between).
Here's to a happy, healthy 2016. More on my personal growth goals later!
With love on this Saturday,
