Choose Joy
Much as in our life together in general, Eli and I kind of have been following the mantra of 'go big or go home' lately. In the last month, we have gotten engaged, welcomed a new puppy and have begun the tedious process of training her, and taken control of our finances by committing to be consumer debt free within the next few years. Lots of huge things there.
It's been a little overwhelming, because in the midst of all of those things is regular life for 6 humans: laundry, home upkeep, kid activities and this little thing I call a full time job. It's enough to make a person insane sometimes. But it's also super fun often (which probably means I'm completely insane). In the midst of all the crazy, it can be hard to remember one thing (something I have struggled with lately in the midst of the crazy): you get to choose Joy each day. And you get to interpret life events as joyful or stressful or awful, but it is a choice. I am reminded of a talk I saw in Seattle by a captivating pastor while at the Hay House conference a few years ago: when you have an underpinning of joy, no matter what happens above that current is situational, the joy is underneath and self renewing. Try spinning those situations around as joyful. A way to do that is to practice gratitude. You have a noisy house? Great. It's full of love and humans. Be grateful. Laundry is climbing th wall? Great. You have more than one outfit to wear. It's a challenge, but a blessing to find joy and blessing in the mundane of daily life. I had simply let that fact escape me for a bit
I hope this Saturday finds you all healthy, happy and joyful. Sunday starts a magical new beggininf, and we get to choose our path of joy for the week. Don't let life's situations determine your attitude toward them, take control and choose joy.
With love,
Kara
