2016
2016 Has proven to be a difficult year for many, many people. A lot of folks I know said final goodbyes, and many continue to see loved ones fight or begin fights with illnesses. It seems it's just been a tough year to be a human in our country, to be fair. If you add in life's events and occurances, it's easy to see how people can be ready to get 2016 in the past. It made me think about my year at the very least.
2016 was fairly uneventful in a lot of ways. I tried to give of myself and be of support to those fighting some big battles. I learned the importance of taking care of myself, and that it is not selfish to put yourself first. I continue to struggle to find balance within myself sometimes, and fight off old habits that threaten to sneak back into my life (mainly controlling things as a means to be comfortable and perfectionism). Luckily, I have a partner that keeps me honest and even though I don't like hearing them, tells me things to keep me in check. We have an amazing kind of love, and one that I am forever grateful for. It continues to grow, evolve and develop as our time together rolls on. We 100% keep each other on our toes.
We keep finding new ways of incorporating families, and we were beyond blessed to find a step-families small group through our church to plug into. They are a fantastic group of people who have varied experiences and backgrounds, so it is great to see our lives through their lenses and just to genuinely connect. I think our goal for next year is to try to get in contact with other special needs step families, if they exist in our community. It would be nice to see some of their struggles, triumphs and suggestions. We bought a house, and are hopeful that with more room we will continue to learn and grow together.
We were able to take a couple fabulous vacations, one to Colorado to visit family and ski, and another to the beach to see friends wed on the beach in the Dominican Republic. We value that time together so much, and our hearts are both in love with ocean and mountains so it was good for our souls.
In 2017, we have big financial goals, so we will probably reign in our spending and amp up our working time (in addition to finishing the basement, projects in the house and the general craziness of our household). There's much promise for us in the new year, and we look forward to 2017.
Have a blessed New Years Eve!
With love,
Kara
