Make it happen

I’ve talked a lot of about inspiration from outside sources recently. The past month had some tough times with the loss of a friend an amazing person. However, I am able to draw strength from that situation and inspiration as well.

At Jesse’s funeral, a video by OneRepublic was played. It is called “I Lived.” Essentially the song talks about living and loving with everything you have so that when your life is over you can say “I Lived, I did it ALL, I gave it all I had.” In the video, they discuss the disease cystic fibrosis (CF) and show scenes from a kid’s (Bryan)’s life (home videos, etc) who has the disease. To say the video is inspirational is an understatement. It is amazing. And it changed my life. 

Also in the video Bryan, is shown cycling. How amazing that someone with CF can cycle, as I have no doubt it is tough as heck for him. Not only does he cycle, he raises money through an organization called CF Cycle For Life.  He and his team have raised  $300,000 for CF research and he has ridden 1200 miles alone himself. Holy awesome!! 

Fast forward to today, when I met with the coordinator for Iowa’s Cycle for Life Chapter. We discussed what it would take to get a ride together and how to make it happen and make it successful. I left the meeting with a full heart, with a better understanding of the disease process, current treatments and developing treatments,  and a TON of inspiration.

Now, I will likely call on a lot of you in the next few months, because I am lucky enough to have an amazing network. Whether it’s a small donation to a rider or volunteering your time for the event, each and every thing will help to fund research for this disease. 

I know one thing is true: I will make this happen. I will make it count, and I will be the person at the end of my road saying “I lived.”

A glimpse into my world

This week has been an interesting one for me. I finished a workout program which kicked my booty and transformed my body, simultaneously reaching my ‘preferred weight,’ (which is slightly lower than my WW goal weight but still solidly in the ‘healthy’ range for someone of my stature. Hooray, right? Well. Sort of. Everyone who has ever lost any amount of weight or made healthy habits can speak to the fact that it’s not necessarily getting there that’s complicated or laborious, but instead the STAYING there. I’m in the process of switching from ‘losing mode’ to ‘maintenance mode,’ and figuring out what that needs to look like with what and how much I am eating, and balancing it with my activity level. Have you ever thought to yourself “well, I’d really like to run a marathon, but I really don’t have the resources to train to do so?” If you have and have also run at least a 10 k (6 miles) without walking before, then I have the perfect opportunity for you. iCan marathon training group will soon be taking applications. You are paired with a running mentor and for 24 weeks you train to run the Des Moines Marathon in October 2015. Blessings for the Soul

I am continually impressed that some weekends in my life can be so completely renewing and nourishing for my soul.  This weekend was especially so! It started out with new relationship building and continued throughout the weekend. It's exciting, but most importantly, it's calming. "It feels like coming home'" was said more than once this weekend. We get caught up in things having to be 'roller coaster exciting' when in all actuality it is fun having those moments, but the quality life things matter so much more. The day to day important things that aren't 'roller coaster exciting' that are equally as exciting in their own way are where it's at. And sometimes all of that comes at a time when you had no idea it would. So to be surprised, excited and blessed by one person is AMAZING.
